High-altitude curves of the Blockhaus road in Abruzzo

Loop 3: Mountain to Sea

~170–180 km | 4.0–4.5 Hours Riding | Curviness: 4.5/5 ⭐

A day built on pure contrast. We leave the Adriatic coast and climb deep into the Majella massif, riding one of the most spectacular high-altitude roads in Abruzzo. After the mountain air and wide horizons of Blockhaus, the road turns and begins a long, flowing descent all the way back to the sea. Mountains in the morning, salt air in the afternoon.

Highlights of the Journey

Stage 01

The Climb to Pretoro

We leave Pescara and start rising through olive groves and quiet hill towns. The air cools, the road tightens, and the massive silhouette of the Majella begins to dominate the skyline. A progressive, enjoyable climb that sets the tone for the day.

Stage 02

Blockhaus

The highlight of the loop. Wide, perfectly paved curves at high altitude with enormous views across the mountains and, on clear days, all the way to the Adriatic. This is pure motorcycle territory — flowing, scenic, and unforgettable.

Stage 03

The Long Descent

Leaving the high mountain behind, the road opens and flows downward through forests and open hills. A continuous, relaxing sequence of curves that gradually brings us closer to the coast and the warmer air of the lowlands.

Stage 04

Lanciano to the Sea

We pass the historic town of Lanciano and continue toward the water. The landscape softens, the horizon opens, and the first glimpse of the Adriatic appears.

Trabocchi Coast near Fossacesia Marina
Stage 05

Fossacesia Marina & the Trabocchi Coast

The ride ends where the mountains meet the sea. A short stretch along the Trabocchi coast — the historic wooden fishing platforms that stretch out over the waves — before returning to Pescara.
